Car-sharing operators - vehicles in fleet in Italy 2019

In 2019, Italian customers had access to more than 2,800 vehicles made available by Sharenow, Italy's largest car-sharing operator in 2019. An increasing number of Italians are embracing car-sharing services: Milan, Rome, and Turin are the Italian cities operating the largest car-sharing fleets.

Shared e-mobility is on the rise

Although gasoline-powered vehicles continue to be the norm in Italy, electric vehicles are becoming more popular among users of shared mobility services. Between 2014 and 2018, Italy's electric scooter fleet grew sixfold in size, despite being still a niche service. In fact, micromobility services are available only in a handful of Italian cities, namely Milan, Rome, Turin, and Genoa.

The year of e-bikes

2018 was the year of electric bikes: the Italian production volume soared to 102,000 units, as a consequence of anti-dumping duties imposed by the European Union on Chinese e-bike exports. Thanks to this measure, in 2018 the Italian export value of electric bicycles and pedelecs increased by 300 percent on the previous year. The sales volume of electric bicycles also increased steadily between 2015 and 2018, reaching 173,000 units in 2018.
